J. Schreiber & Neffen

The aim of the project was digitising the firm J. Schreiber & Neffen’s pattern books and catalogues dating from 1874-1945 to preserve important documents from the central European glass manufacture history as the European cultural heritage. The digitised collection accessible on these Web pages will allow researchers and those interested in the history of the Czech glass manufacture to acquire new pieces of knowledge of the company’s production assortment, the use of various glass technologies, methods of glass refining, important clients, or other items.

The material presented here was drawn from the surviving business documentation of the glassworks: pattern books, printed sales catalogues and the loose plates that accompanied them. Together they record roughly seventy years of production — the shapes, the decors, the mould numbers and the export assortments that the firm offered between 1874 and 1945.

Each item has been photographed page by page and described, so that a drawing can be traced back to the volume it came from and to the year in which it was issued. The aim is a working reference for anyone identifying a piece of Central European pressed, cut or lighting glass from this period.
